Frequently asked questions
What happens to comments and anchors?
JSON has no comments, so YAML comments are dropped from the output. Anchors (&name) and aliases (*name) are resolved — every alias becomes a full copy of the value it points to, not a reference.
Does it handle multi-document YAML?
Yes — a file with multiple documents separated by --- converts to a single JSON array, one entry per document.
Why does conversion fail on my YAML?
Usually inconsistent indentation, or a tab character where YAML expects spaces — YAML is indentation-sensitive and doesn't allow tabs for structure.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.
Is this free to use?
Yes, vtree is free with no account or sign-up required.
